Apple nod to Mavericks with OS X.
Computing giant Apple have recently honoured big wave spot Mavericks with their latest 'Mavericks' operating system.
"We want to set a name that will carry us for at least the next ten years, and the answer was really obvious: it's those places that inspire us here in California, the place where OS X is designed and built", says Craig Federighi, software engineering leader at Apple.
In 1961, three surfers, Alex Matienzo, Jim Thompson and Dick Knottmeyer decided to test the waves off Pillar Point. Matienzo's white-haired German Shepherd named Maverick is the origin of the big wave surf spot.
Personally, we don't see why they didn't go with 'K10 Point' operating system. We think it has a nice ring to it...
