Autumn has arrived! Latest ripcurl drop at www.secretspot.co.uk

Autumn has arrived folks, and with Autumn comes both the winter swells and sudden plummet in temperatures. As the premier cold water surf company, it's our job and pleasure to outfit you in the right gear so your surfs don't suffer.

If you think that looks cold, you'd be spot on. Now seems the appropriate time to introduce the latest drop of Ripcurl winter suits and accessories here at www.secretspot.co.uk. Constructed with the cutting edge E4 neoprene, the latest Ripcurl gear will have you surfing longer and harder!

Winter is coming, and game of thrones references aside it's going to get absolutely baltic on the east coast in the coming months. With almost mystical timing, we've just had the latest drop of ripcurls' new winter suits at the spot.. Some might say we even planned it this way! This blog will highlight the features of the new ripcurl suits hitting our shelves this week, including our candid opinion of their latest E4 neoprene. As usual if you lovely folks have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any of our locations.

Beginning with the Ripcurl 'Omega', this suit is the successor to the extremely popular Dawn Patrol, and will be the budget suit to go for this winter. Featuring the super stretch FleeFlex neoprene with an underlining of UltraLite Neo rubber, this is a low price suit with some big budget features. At only £104.95, this 5/3mm winter suit will keep you toasty and flexible, perfect for the weekend warrior who doesn't want to leave his testes in the north sea! The suit comes with the hydroloc collar as standard to prevent flushing, while a good old back zip completes this classic wetsuit. CLICK HERE FOR THE OMEGA 5/3MM

The 'Dawn Patrol', Ripcurl hugely popular budget suit of the last 9000 years has finally been promoted! No longer will this beauty sit at the bottom of the wetsuit food chain, it is now a middle market winter suit with some awesome new features. Firstly, we need to mention the flash dry lining and brand spanking new E4 neoprene which comes as standard. This equates to 30% more stretch and 20% less weight than last years model, resulting in a seriously improved wetsuit. The back zip with internal batwing will help prevent flushing, and the mesh sewn chest panel will keep you that extra bit warmer, Available in both black or blue, this is a good looking high end suit for a middle market price at only £149.95. CLICK HERE FOR THE NEW DAWN PATROL

Ripcurl's 'Flashbomb', widely regarded as one of the finest winter suits available has also gone under refurb. The famous flash bomb lining has been reconstructed from E4 neoprene, giving more stretch and less weight. The flashdry technology that goes into each and every suit ensures you never need to put on a soaking wetsuit again, while the seams are externally glued, internally taped and blind stitched throughout. This is a top end high performance winter suit, with almost every innovative and ground breaking feature Ripcurl could throw at it. The Flashbomb has earned wide recognition throughout the surfing world, resulting in the awarding of 2 SIMA awards for the best wetsuit. At £339.95, this is well worth the money for your a regular cold water veteran. Available in both a 5/4mm and 6/5/4mm thickness.
Finally, our opinion of the E4 super strech neoprene. This will quickly cement Ripcurl's reputation as a market leader, as it is a phenomenal form of neoprene. Supremely light and unrestrictive, the experienced surfer will immediately feel the difference. If your getting in the sea regularly and are tired of the same clumsy heavy winter suits, this is the way forward.

Surf News

If your tired of scouring websites and magazines for the latest surfing news and gossip, look no further. The boys at secretspot will periodically be running a surfing news update, bringing you the latest and greatest surfing stories in a quick and concise manner. We've searched the websites and mags to bring you the very latest up to date surfing news...

Number one on our list is 'Surfer knocked unconscious by whale's tail'. Yes it appear our Aussie cousins have been getting a little frisky with the local sea life, resulting in one bold kook being given a firm "NO" by a humpback whale near Bondi Beach. Bishan Rajapakse was enjoying a surf when a 15m whale flicked him into the ocean. We can only hope he bought her dinner before.

Julian Wilson recently made the headlines in the surfing stratosphere this month, besting Jordy Smith in a high scoring final for the Mr Price Pro 2013 championship in South Africa. Ballito delivered the goods, and both young chargers provided the watching crowd with some incredible surfing talent. Wilson performed a perfect 10 aerial to cinch the win, leaving Smith in a distant second place.

The Portugese town of Peniche, known best for it's dominating beach break and hosting of the Rip Curl Pro, has confirmed that it will be building a wave pool in the near future. It will be installed at a theme park only 500m away from the surf break, and seeks to extend the limited season to further cement Portugal's reputation as the home of European surfing.

Rahtu and Alik dominate Padang Padang trials, main event is imminent.

Local Kuta beach charger Rahtu Suargita and Uluwatu legend Alik Rudiarta demonstrated the best of Bali surfing talent recently, commanding an emphatic victory over a field of 16 of Bali's most talented young surfers. Securing first and second place, the two locals earned their place in the main event and the chance to compete for $10,000 in prize money.

The contest kicked off in typical Padang style, with a powerful new swell pouring into the reef on Sunday morning. Solid 5ft tubes thundered throughout the day, with the local chargers getting bazzed on a regular basis. This was fast and heavy surfing as only Padang can deliver. Eventually the talent was whittled down to just two, with Rahtu taking first place after smashing a pair of deep barrells across the inside section. Alik also surfed exceptionally well, claiming second place after writhing his way through a set of deep backhand tubes.

Both finalists were crowned upon the giant podium that sits on Padang Padang's beach while cheered on by a massive crowed of mixed locals and surf fans. Indo really showed up to support their home boys at this contest, a great indication of the tight knit surfing community which exists here. The opening cermemony was celebrated through the traditional Balinese dance known as the Kecack, to ask the God's for permission to hold the contest at this sacred spot. A fantastic mix of surfing ability and culture, we're only hoping for more of the same when the main event comes to town.

Happy International Surfing Day

Today, the 20th June 2013, is officially international surfing day! Who knew?

So a happy surfing day to all of our loyal customers. Sit back, relax, and reflect on the fact that the day the world comes together to celebrate surfing is the same day that the east coast doesn't have a single ripple. Coincidence? We're not so sure.

Apple nod to Mavericks with OS X.

Computing giant Apple have recently honoured big wave spot Mavericks with their latest 'Mavericks' operating system.

"We want to set a name that will carry us for at least the next ten years, and the answer was really obvious: it's those places that inspire us here in California, the place where OS X is designed and built", says Craig Federighi, software engineering leader at Apple.

In 1961, three surfers, Alex Matienzo, Jim Thompson and Dick Knottmeyer decided to test the waves off Pillar Point. Matienzo's white-haired German Shepherd named Maverick is the origin of the big wave surf spot.

Personally, we don't see why they didn't go with 'K10 Point' operating system. We think it has a nice ring to it...

The Oakley Bali Pro 2013

Well the Oakley Bali Pro is well under way and it's claimed a few scalps of top rated surfers already including Bruce Irons, Gabriel Medina and Taj Burrows. Its being held at Keramas on the east coast of Bali just a wee drive up the coast from Sanur on what is described as a surfers paradise island. If you ever get the chance to go to Bali do so, its one Hell of a surf trip and if your their when one of them southern hemi swells comes poring across the reefs you'll remember it for a long long time. The Bali Pro is sponsored by the world leader in sport eye protection, Oakley, and a full range can be found here>>

The Bali Pro is about the one surfer on everyones lips , yes you guessed it the legendary Kelly Slater. At 41 years old he is leading the Asp World tour going into the Keramas Bali pro and all eyes are focused on what this remarkable human being is going to deliver this time. Second in his first heat he still goes through to the next round of the event the firm favourite. Can anyone beat him ? Will he walk away with an unprecedented 12th World Title at the end of the season ? Whatever happens it will be a great show to watch over the coming months as to what happens and all the Fantasy surfer dudes will be frothing at the bit if he makes Keramas another victory.
